The Keeper

The Keeper, also known as “The Sovereign of Death and Decay”, is a god who embodies greed and death. He acts as the patron of anybody who is extremely selfish, and protects the families of those who have just died. He has no say in the handling of the souls of the dead, but he oftentimes trolls markets in the lower planes and in Sigil, the city of doors, in a more normal form, looking for larvae, manes, lemures, and souls in any other form. He then takes the souls to his home, the hollow world of Dec-Dep-Det, where he lords over them in their never-ending life after death. However, sometimes an agent of death or servants of Primus, the one and the prime, appear and take some of the souls to their true home for their afterlife.

In their favorite form, The Keeper has the likeness of a constantly rotting, immense, bloated corpse, its features mostly obscured by the layers upon layers of astral fungi, ethereal maggots, and celestial beetles. Great, billowing clouds of vile gas blow from gigantic holes torn in the sides of their bloated body. The innumerable eyes growing on the face of this corpse flit and stare in many directions, and the many obese arms move rythmically. In whatever forms they take, there is always some form of rot or plague in it. When in the form of a fat, greedy man, as they often take when visiting marketplaces, their teeth might be rotting, or they might reek with the stench of decay. To cover up their nature, they often take the form of an undead creature, such as a lich, or the form of an intelligent zombie.
